School Aid has been working with partners in Malawi since 2012. During that time we’ve reached some of the country’s most remote schools, shipping over 196,980 books to 150 schools which support 96,535 children, including a number of orphans and vulnerable children. In 2016 we worked with our partners on a research and development reading club project, the resulting success of which has helped shape and roll out our current reading club programme in our other focus countries. In 2018 we will launch the first School Aid Malawi school library, complete with a trained library assistant.
Our Project and Reading Officer in Malawi is Moses Banda
Moses joined School Aid in 2016 and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology and Leadership, which he studied at the African Christian College in Swaziland in 2011. He has worked as an Administrative Assistant, Teacher, Librarian and Preacher at the Namikango Bible College from 2012 - 2015. Moses holds morning reading clubs and afternoon drop-in sessions for his learners. He has also introduced open session reading clubs during the school holidays attracting over 750 young people. These sessions are hosted wherever the facilities are available, from community libraries, nurseries and schools, and even on the beaches around Lake Malawi.
