New library venture for School Aid in Tanzania

In a first for School Aid in Tanzania, our latest shipment was entirely library based.  Most of the books on board the 20ft container in July 2018 were headed for a community project, My Little Travelling Library, which brings library books to primary schools in the remote north of the country, bordering Lake Victoria. We are delighted to be building on an earlier shipment to them, and can imagine the joy of children as their book cart trundles into the schools.

The rest of the resources will form the basis of a new School Aid library in the same area. In partnership with the NGO Standing Voice, which works to integrate marginalised members of society into the wider community, we have sent four pallets of books for their new library at the Umoja Training Centre on Ukerewe Island. Not only will the library be used by residents and visitors to the centre, but it will also form part of their outreach programme to schools in the vicinity. Along with the books, we will also be providing a computer loaded with library-specific software, and will be training their new library assistant in its use.  It's an immensely exciting project for all concerned, so watch this space; we will be sharing further news and photos as soon as we have them.
