Tanzania: 20,000 books bound for 6,500 students in 16 schools

A beautiful sunny day in July saw School Aid volunteers filling every corner of a 20ft container with books, stationery, sports kit and furniture, bound for 16 schools in Tanzania.

Recipient schools incorporate nine secondary schools, six primaries and a brand new nursery. In the Bagamoyo area, close to Dar es Salaam, a group of schools was identified by School Aid's representative in Tanzania, Josh Palfreman, while the others - in the remote northern region of Bukoba - were nominated by Aseri Katanga, Chairman of Computers 4 Africa. Very few of the schools benefit from electricity, and while several have a school library, their selection of books is severely limited; we are confident that these resources will make a significant difference to the students and teachers in each school.

Customs procedures in Tanzania can be very complex, and it took some time for our container to be released, but we are delighted that these resources are now firmly in the hands of the individual schools.
