Reading Clubs in Lesotho
By Jane Perry on 16th March 2017
The first School Aid Reading Clubs are being rolled out in Lesotho.
Moso Ranoosi, our new Project and Reading Officer in Lesotho, has started Reading Clubs in five primary schools close to the capital of Maseru. He is working with small groups of children and is being supported by student volunteers and a professional teacher. Each week, the children are read a story, with opportunities to re-tell the story in their own words, act it out, draw pictures, create simple masks or puppets and write book reviews; the emphasis is on it being fun. They also have a regular one-to-one reading session, which aims to improve their confidence in speaking, reading and understanding English, which is the medium of instruction in Lesotho.
