Launch of School Aid South Africa

In mid March 2009 School Aid South Africa was launched. The event was hosted by the British High Commissioner, the Rt Hon Paul Boateng, and was attended by Lady Baker, our Founder; Janis Mowlam, our new UK Chairman; the Chief Justice; the Director General of the Department of Education; and other guests with an interest in education and corporate social responsibility. Also present were the principals of three schools that have received School Aid support: Mveledzo Primary (twinned with St Fagan's, Wales), Tlamatlama Primary (twinned with Llandaff Church in Wales Primary) and Tsosolosa Secondary School. School Aid South Africa's first Patron, Tembi Tambo, welcomed the new organisation in a speech read on her behalf. Ms Tambo is currently South Africa's Consul General in Hong Kong. In his speech the High Commissioner gave School Aid a strong endorsement. The volunteers' hard work in organising the event, the High Commissioner's generous sponsorship of the event and the support of Nederberg and ABSA Bank ensured that it was a successful evening.
