School-Aid Building partnerships with African schools

School linking

School-Aid encourages UK schools to learn more about an African school by creating a direct link. We provide contact information and an introduction so that letters can be exchanged, gifts sent and sometimes visits arranged.

Steeple Claydon School will be linked with Grassy Park School in Capetown, South Africa.

Llanhari Secondary School in South Wales, together with the local community, is linked with Umqhele Comprehensive in Ivory Park Township in Johannesburg. Rhodri Morgan, The Welsh Secretary, acted as “Postman” delivering letters from Welsh pen pals when he was on a visit to South Africa in 2004. 2004.

Wheatfield’s Infants School in St Alban’s is helping to set up a pre-school in a rural community in Stanford near Hermanus, SouthAfrica, via a local charity Food4thought.

Your contacts
If you know a school in Africa that has an outstanding need for books and materials, please get in touch with Chris Thomas via the School-Aid office. If we have transport to this area and the Head Teacher has completed our Fact Sheet, we may be able to send some valuable educational resources, as well as offering the opportunity of a link with a suitable UK school.

Afritwin

One of our partners in Jayne Martin who runs Afritwin. She is very active in the Manchester area and links UK schools with similar schools in Durban for a small annual fee. You might like to contact her: jayne.martin@afritwin.net
